Surprise #4--my first book for Horses and Friends!!!

Man O' War, A Legendary Racehorse--it is book #1 of the Champion Racehorse Series. I plan to make more, ones that include "Ruffian, Girls Can do it, too," and "Secretariat, A Fiery Horse." This is only what I am thinking about, however, and not positive fact, so do not expect anything.
The current book, however, is a complete biography on Man O' War. It starts when he is a tiny foal with his mother, Mahubah, to when he is buried at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. It includes a five-chapter biography, a few of Man O' War's descendants, A Quick-Fact page on Man O' War, so that you don't have to read through the whole book to find something you want, Man O' War's major racing wins and awards, and a page set apart for some of his photos.
Hope you enjoy!!! All of the proceedings will go to Missy and someday, Cowboy.
Have a nice day!!!!

January '08 Horse Sense Magazine--Now Available!!

Sorry we were a little late on this one. But perhaps you won't mind, as there are three new things in this magazine--like I told you a while back. There are 20 pages, and a new game, "Find it." This game will only be presented this month, and perhaps others, if I ever have the time. You must find six things, listed one the last page, and one secret thing that I will not show you--then you will win a free February issue of Horse Sense Magazine!!! This is only valid until January 25th. When you find everything, please follow these steps carefully:

1. Email me with "Find it" in the subject line; no other subject will be accepted.

2. Be sure to include the page numbers of every single "Find it" item.

3. Describe EXACTLY where the item is found on that particular page.

4. Please only email me when you have found every single one, and not when you have only found a few, and are still looking for the others.

5. If you have any questions, email me. The subject line may have anything in it for this type of email, but please do not put in "Find it," as this will make me confused.

The other two new things are the History of the Horse and Horse Sense Sales. History of the Horse is an article that starts from the beginning of time and slowly, over many years of magazines, comes down to present. Hopefully you will learn something from this (all Bible verses are strictly KJV [King James Version]). Horse Sense Sales is for anyone who is looking for something in particular or selling something in particular (preferably horses) and is kind of like an advertisement corner of the magazine. Email me with "Horse Sense Sales" in the subject line if you would like to submit something, and be sure to say whether it belongs in the "Looking for" or "For Sale" section.
Have fun!!!! Happy New Year!!!!

Genuine Risk - 1980 Kentucky Derby

Genuine Risk--Kentucky Derby Winner

Genuine Risk was a hero as far as her fans are concerned; but to people of this day, she may only seem like a filly with a lot of luck. Her racing history consisted of 15 starts, with 10 wins, 3 shows, and 2 places. It may seem good, but most of them were small races.

Born on February 15, 1977, to a mare named Virtous, Genuine Risk seemed like any other foal on the farm--just a scrawny little youngster colored chestnut with white markings on her face and legs. But eventually she would become a hero of her own--a Kentucky Derby winner.

In 1979, the chestnut filly captured the Demoiselle Stakes and the Tempted Stakes. She was ridden by Jacinto Vasquez (the same who rode Ruffian), trained by LeRoy Jolley, and owned by Diana M. Firestone. She was ridden to victory after victory, and finished her year with a good amount of wins under her belt.

She did just as good, if not better, in 1980. She captured the Kentucky Derby, becoming only the second filly to accomplish such a feat. She came second in both the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes, becoming the first filly to ever finish in the money in all three Triple Crown races. She was accordingly given the name "U.S. Champion 3-year-old Filly." She was loved by all her fans, and many others as well.

Genuine Risk finished out her racing career with $646,587. Her first breeding mate was Secretariat. The result was a stillborn colt. The next try proved the same results. Unfortunately, Genuine Risk only foaled two living foals in all her breeding years. One was Genuine Reward, a colt by Rahy, and the other was Count Our Blessing, a colt by Chief Honcho. Neither ever raced, and Count Our Blessing was eventually gelded.

Genuine Risk still stands at Firestone's Newstead Farm in Upperville, Virginia. Currently she is the oldest living Kentucky Derby winner, at 30 years old. Perhaps it is this that will help her earn a name in history.

Genuine Risk is ranked #91 in the Top 100 U.S. Racehorses of the 20th Century.
